Changes are coming to Mountain Country 107.9, and we NEED your help.
The property where our antenna is currently located will be sold in the next few months and it will be necessary for us to relocate.
An antenna move isn't an easy task. It requires the help of both local and consulting engineers and lawyers to help us navigate the strict rules from the FCC.
One of our biggest hurdles was finding a new long term location. Thankfully that has been taken care of.
The new location will benefit our listeners with a stronger signal here in Alpine as well as Lakeside and Santee.
With this move we will be able to increase our power output of 4 watts to 100 watts. This will require us to replace our current omni-directional antenna with a custom built directional antenna.
In this estimated coverage map provided by our consulting engineer, you'll see our current coverage area in the red. The green will be the new coverage area which as you can see gives us a much stronger signal while protecting other stations on the dial that are close to us.
This move requires approval of the Federal Communications Comission in Washington DC as well as the IFT (Federal Telecommunications Institute) in Mexico. The authorization from Mexico is required because of International Treaties in place between the US and Mexican governments.
We are asking for your financial support to help us to continue our mission to serve the public interest as a public trustee. Mountain Country 107.9 offers a unique mix of country music forgotten by most corporate radio stations. Add to that local information and news including local wildfire coverage and specialty programs. We are a an anomoly on today's radio dial. A locally programmed radio station.
This requires financial support outside or our typical day to day expenses that are met by our awesome underwriters.
We anticipate this project to cost around $15,000 to complete and our fundraising deadline is October 31st, 2021. If we don't meet this goal, it is possible that we may have to cease operations. This small investment will insure that our community radio station continues to serve East San Diego County for years to come with a stronger signal and the security of a long term antenna facility agreement.
